As the muzzles are made by hand, slight tolerances in the dimensions (+/- 0.5 cm) are possible.

Please note that the breed specifications are only intended as a guide regarding size and head shape. The optimum fit can only be determined during the fitting.

The black coated muzzle from Chopo is equipped with 3 turquoise biothane straps. The noseband is padded. It also has a neck strap with a buckle and an adjustable throat strap.

The muzzles are made by hand .

Every dog should be used to wearing a muzzle, as there may be certain situations in which wearing a muzzle may be necessary or even required by law. For example, wearing a muzzle is compulsory on public transport, cable cars and also in some public places or shopping centres. Even on holiday, it can't hurt to have a well-fitting muzzle in your luggage, as other countries often have different regulations.

A muzzle is by no means just a protection against biting. It can also, for example, prevent the dog from ingesting things that could harm it(poisoned bait , etc.) or from nibbling on bandages.

What is important for optimum comfort when wearingthe muzzle?
The dog should be able to pant and drink unhindered when wearing the muzzle. As panting is the only way for dogs to thermoregulate - they cannot sweat - it is extremely important that the dog can open its mouth unhindered, especially in summer or when it is under a lot of strain. The muzzle should not restrict the dog's field of vision if possible. However, for some breeds - especially short-snouted representatives and dogs with particularly deep eyes - this is sometimes not completely feasible. The muzzle should be comfortable for the dog to wear. This means that the contact surface on the muzzle should be well padded, the larynx and windpipe must not be restricted when the head is in a normal position and the muzzle must not rest on the nose or on the sensitive nasal sponge or bump against the front. It must not be possible for the dog to pull the muzzle over its nose itself. The cheekpieces provide stability and should rest lightly on the dog, but should not press against it.
The length must be chosen so that the nose has approx. 0.5 - 2 cm of space to the front (depending on the breed and model). The muzzle should therefore be neither too short nor too long. If it is too long, the dog will always push the muzzle too far towards the eye when sniffing.

What is the advantage of a metal muzzle?
Metal muzzles offer the highest level of protection against biting incidents. They are therefore the only solution for dogs that intend to bite. Metal muzzles can be fitted relatively easily with a little skill. They can be bent slightly to achieve the optimum fit.
Please note that we cannot take the muzzle back if the shape has been altered. Also, if the muzzle is bent too much or improperly, welding points may be damaged. Metal muzzles are very easy to clean and particularly durable.

How do I measure the dog correctly?
Muzzle length: This is measured from approx. 1-2 cm below the eyes to the tip of the nose. Ideally from where the strap should rest. For extremely short muzzles (pugs and the like), measure starting directly under the eye.
Muzzle circumference: This is measured at the widest part of the dog's muzzle. An addition of 30-40% should be made so that the dog can pant well. This may sound like a lot at first, but dogs usually really need this space. However, these allowances are only a recommendation or a guideline that must be considered individually depending on the breed and muzzle model.
Muzzle width: This is also best measured with a ruler at the widest point of the dog's mouth - also at the point where the nose pad should later rest. The chosen model must of course be wide enough so that the dog's muzzle does not hit the metal bars, but should not be too wide as the muzzle will then have a poor grip.

The Chopo muzzle is also available in  zinc or with leather straps - also in zinc and black . The zinc muzzle is slightly lighter than the black one.
