- When feeding dry food, please make sure that the dog has enough fresh water available.
- In the interest of canine health, we strongly advise adhering to the manufacturer's quantity and dosage recommendations. This will prevent overweight or underweight as well as deficiency symptoms or excess.
- Meat content in dry food: To produce dry food, water is removed from the fresh meat. This results in highly concentrated dried meat. The nutrient density in this dried product is many times greater than in fresh meat. Due to this high concentration, less dried meat is required for the dried feed. The indication of the meat content is thus a purely percentage, and has little significance with regard to the quality of the dog food.

For dogs with intolerances, allergies or sensitive stomachs, dry food with insect protein can be THE solution. Because in many cases conventional proteins such as chicken, beef or gluten are responsible for the allergy. A protein source with which the body has not been in contact before, such as insect protein, usually works very well in such cases. Unopened, our dry food stays fresh for many months. After opening, we recommend storing the bag in a cool, dry and airtight place - this way the quality is optimally preserved for around 6-8 weeks.
- Water balance: If dry food is soaked, this also ensures a certain water supply. Especially for dogs that tend to drink little, this can be a useful measure.
- Sensitive stomach: Some dogs are sensitive and get a stomach ache from dry food. This is because dry food swells in the stomach and can then lead to a feeling of fullness. If dry food is soaked, the kibbles swell up beforehand and can no longer cause problems for the sensitive dog's stomach.
- Sensitive teeth: Often old dogs refuse the hard, dry kibbles, because they simply can no longer bite them. Their teeth are no longer as powerful or even hurt.
- Avoid ingestion: Dogs are naturally gobblers. However, there are sometimes specimens that do not chew their food and swallow it really hastily. For such dogs, it can also make sense to soak the food so that the dry, scratchy croquettes do not get stuck in their throats.
- Taste: soaked dry food becomes watered down and thus loses its taste. Some dogs therefore do not eat soaked dry food.
- Consistency: especially cold-pressed dry food does not swell, but simply disintegrates.
- Shelf life: If the dog does not eat the entire portion of the soaked food, the leftovers must be disposed of, because soaked food cannot be safely stored and given at the next feeding.
- Time: Since it takes some time for the dry food to swell, the dog owner should plan for this. How long should you soak dry food? Mixing dry food with water and letting it swell for around 30 minutes can be used as a rule of thumb.

Mixing dry and wet food is generally possible and is well tolerated by many dogs. For very fussy dogs, wet food can make the meal even more palatable and also contributes to fluid intake due to its water content.
However, not every dog is equally suited to this combination. As dry and wet food differ in their composition and digestion time, sensitive animals may experience digestive problems such as flatulence or soft faeces. In such cases, it may make more sense to give the two types of food separately.
Small amounts of wet food as a supplement or "topping" on the dry food are generally unproblematic, even for sensitive animals.

SPF stands for Super Premium Moist. Semi-moist, also known as soft feed, differs from dry feed in that it has a higher residual moisture content. This is 17-18% in the PERRO SPF varieties. One of the advantages of these products is that the kibble does not swell up in the dog's stomach.

There are currently no scientific studies on this topic. This type of feeding must therefore be considered and decided on a very individual basis. However, we can provide empirical values.
Therefore, our tip: If both types of food are to be fed, simply divide them into 2 meals. For example, the dog can be offered dry food in the morning and wet food in the evening.
