Fresh hay is not only used as soft bedding and stable bedding, hay must always be available in sufficient quantities. It has a high crude fibre content and is essential for our animals' digestion. In the natural habitat of our pets' ancestors, grass was an indispensable staple food - at least in summer.
Wild guinea pigs, for example, feed mainly on grasses and herbs. The digestive tract of domesticated guinea pigs is still almost identical to that of their wild counterparts. However, as it is not always possible to provide fresh grasses and herbs in our homes and our winters prevent meadows from growing all year round, hay is THE substitute and is therefore the staple food of our pets.

Guinea pigs, rabbits and hamsters also need to eat a lot of hay to wear down their teeth. A guinea pig, for example, grinds down an impressive 2mm of teeth in a week!

The molars are only ground down by hay or fresh food, which is extremely important.
